ROOTSVILLE CD REVIEW by Swa Belgium CHARLEY CRUZ & THE LOST SOULS NL) www.rootsville.be Juli 2009 |
Charley Cruz & The Lost Souls provide an inspired and intuitive musical journey, “The Last Warrior" being an excellent guide through the extensive category.
The marvellous opening track "Curfew City", but even more so "Savage Delight" and "Small Town Girls" make a real “time for a change” and turn the disc into a real rocker, the leading role being claimed by the Stones/Tom Petty /J. Geils Band guitar licks and Ronald Cruz's excellent drumming.
The Dutch “roots/americana” Hope has obviously taken off all the (guitar) brakes.
A class act!

'The Last Warrior' is a versatile, lived-in album from a quartet who know how to fry their roots-rock onions and is a treat for sore ears.
I've no idea whether there's much of a roots-rock scene in the Netherlands, but it would be a shame if geography left Charley Cruz & The Lost Souls swimming against the tide for the duration as they clearly have talent and skill on their side and will surely build on this if they can get over to the States in any meaningful way.
If they can, audiences will discover that 'The Last Warrior' is a formidable beast.

“The Last Warrior” is a good CD.
A really good CD!. Charley Cruz & The Lost Souls from Dordrecht make countryrock with pop and blues influences.
Although the music is easy to listen to, that doesn’t detract a thing from the quality.
The lyrics are good, but the real strength of the album lies in the combination of strong compositions combined with impressive musicality.
The CD is enthralling despite its length of an hour.
I’m sure the CD will inspire the listener to see the group live.
I’ll certainly be there! |
